SEPTEMBER 25, 1995 - Mobile, AL - QMS, Inc. (NYSE:AQM), the network printer
company, today announced the QMS magicolor CX color laser print system.
This next generation color laser, extends the QMS line of color laser
printers and offers users brilliant color as well as monochrome output and
extensive network capabilities. The magicolor CX introduces several new
features from QMS, including new color screening technology, improved
color management tools and microfine toner. These improvements translate
to outstanding image quality for both business and desktop publishing
users.

ColorSmooth, QMS' new color screening implementation, produces high
resolution PostScript printing by utilizing frequency-modulated (FM)
screening. QMS ColorSmooth uses randomly placed micro-dots to produce
bright colors, smoother tones and sharper rendering of images. ColorSmooth
also eliminates the rosettes, moire patterns and banding typically found
in other color printers.

Color proficiency is not a requirement for using the magicolor CX. The
improved QMS Qcolor advanced color management technology provides
automatic color optimization for novice or professional color users and a
customizable color capability for advanced users. New QMS printer drivers
incorporate Qcolor management tools that offer easy color matching for
Windows and Macintosh applications. Qcolor also offers improved QMS
Enhanced amplitude-modulation (AM) screening for business applications.
Qcolor matching capabilities include CIE-based color matching, PANTONE
color simulation, and ICC 3.0 and ColorSync support. In addition, QMS has
addressed ease of use barriers by creating automated set-up procedures for
business, graphic design and text modes.

QMS meets a wide range of needs by offering color users the QMS magicolor
CX and the QMS magicolor LX. Users who demand high-quality, photo-
realistic color rendering will find the magicolor CX an ideal solution.
Whereas business graphic users may elect the magicolor LX at an attractive
price point.

"Our customers now have the option of choosing between two multi- network,
color laser printers that each meet the needs of a variety of users,"
states Moira Craig, QMS vice president world wide marketing. "According to
industry analysts such as Dataquest, growth in color laser printer demand
will be led by the integration of color into traditional black and white
business applications and growth in printer functionality. In the
magicolor CX, we have successfully met these demands by integrating high
quality color and monochrome printing, with an optional full color copier,
into a single printer."

QMS MAGICOLOR CX

The magicolor CX features a 40 Mhz RISC-based internal controller and can
accommodate up to 64 MB of RAM plus an internal hard drive. The base model
magicolor CX is configured with 32 MB of RAM, 39 of the most popular
PostScript language fonts, 20 PCL fonts, and an internal hard disk drive
for system software storage, font storage and network spooling. A
comprehensive set of system utilities and drivers are supplied with the
printer, including new QuickDraw GX and Windows drivers, which improve
overall throughput and ease of use. The QMS level 2 Windows driver is
based upon proven Windows driver technologies developed by Software 2000,
a leading supplier of advanced device driver solutions.

The magicolor CX provides 600 x 600 dpi resolution, and prints 3 to 6 ppm
in color and 12 ppm in monochrome. The printer has extensive network
capabilities, is readily upgradeable and includes an Energy- star
compliant power saving mode. The magicolor CX utilizes microfine toner
that reduces the toner particle size from an industry standard 10 microns
to 7 microns, which greatly improves image quality.

QMS CROWNCOPY OPTION

The recently announced QMS CrownCopy option expands the functionality of
the magicolor CX, allowing it to serve as a color copier as well as a
printer. CrownCopy brings to business and desktop publishing users the
option to make color copies in the office, at an affordable cost. The
copier option includes a flat-bed desktop scanner for copier input and
special QMS copy software. QMS CrownCopy is capable of printing multiple
copies of color originals at up to 3 copies per minute. The copier is
easily attached to the printer through the standard SCSI interface.

The multi-language front panel provides both LED and alphanumeric system
status and allows the user to tune system performance for specific
applications and environments. The front panel is also used to control the
CrownCopy copier option, allowing walk-up color copying at the printer
location.

QMS Color Laser Printers

The QMS line of color laser printers also includes the magicolor LX, which,
priced at $4,999, is the least expensive color laser printer on the
market. The magicolor LX provides up to 600 x 600 dpi resolution, and
prints 3-6 ppm in color and 12 ppm in monochrome. Standard configuration
for the magicolor LX includes 12 MB of RAM, which supports 600 x 600 dpi
monochrome printing and 300 x 300 dpi color output. With an additional 12
MB of RAM, the magicolor LX provides 600 x 600 color output.

The magicolor CX and magicolor LX color laser printers are based on QMS
Crown and CrownNet technologies. Crown multitasking technology delivers
fast document print throughput, software loadable upgradability, automatic
compatibility with popular printing languages, and seamless connectivity
to virtually any network environment. QMS CrownNet provides simultaneous
network protocol support for multiple users and advanced remote printer
management capabilities. QMS color laser printers incorporate SLS
(software loadable system) technology for easy and cost-effective addition
of system upgrades and enhancements via the network or host PC.

The magicolor CX comes standard with either CrownNet Ethernet or Token-Ring
interface, which simultaneously supports connections to PC and Mac
environments including NetWare, EtherTalk, TCP/IP and
LanManager/LanServer. In addition, the magicolor CX and LX support Windows
applications for multiple operating systems.
