QUANTUM ANNOUNCES WINDOWS '95 CERTIFICATION FOR QUANTUM FIREBALL AND
QUANTUM TRAILBLAZER DRIVES

WORLDWIDE VOLUME LEADER EXPECTS TO SHIP MORE DRIVES THAN ANY OTHER DISK
DRIVE MANUFACTURER

MILPITAS, CALIF., SEPTEMBER 19, 1995 - Quantum Corporation, (NMS:QNTM), the
worldwide volume leader in hard disk drives, today announced that its
Quantum Fireball™ 540 and 1080 and Quantum Trailblazer™ 420, 630
and 850 IDE-ATA 3.5-inch drives have been certified compatible with
Microsoft's Windows '95 operating system.

Always "ahead of the curve," the company has already shipped more than
three million Windows '95-compatible drives to its customer base which
includes the majority of the top ten PC manufacturers.

"I think we'll see a rush from home users initially who will purchase
Windows '95 and associated upgrades, including more RAM and more storage,"
said Phil Devin, vice president and chief analyst of storage technologies
at Dataquest. "But the real pent-up demand lies with corporate buyers who
may have put off buying equipment until Windows '95 was available."
Quantum's Fireball drives, designed for high-end PCs and PC servers, and
the Quantum Trailblazer, designed for entry-level PCs, are specifically
designed to accommodate both markets identified by Devin.

"Quantum has the technology in place to enable us to increase storage
capacity as the market demands," said William J. Miller, Quantum's chief
executive officer. "Technologies in our portfolio, such as MR heads and
PRML read channels, provide increased storage capacity to accommodate
operating systems like Windows '95 and accompanying software programs,
on-line services, multimedia and other disk-hungry applications."

The Quantum Fireball drives are available in single disk 540MB or dual disk
1080MB versions. Performance enhancing features include a Fast ATA-2
interface for data transfer rates up to 16.6 MB/second and
Partial-Response Maximum Likelihood (PRML) read channels for high internal
data rates and increased areal density. The rotational speed of the
Quantum Fireball drives is 5,400 RPM and the average seek time is 12ms.
The Quantum Fireball SCSI drives are also available with a Fast SCSI-3
interface that provides data transfers of up to 10 MB/second.

The QuantumTrailblazer drives also feature either a Fast ATA-2 or Fast
SCSI-3 interface, an increased rotational speed of 4,500 RPM and an
average seek time of 14 milliseconds (ms).

The company's SCSI-based Quantum Fireball, Quantum Trailblazer, and the
2.5-inch Quantum Europa drives are currently in test for Windows '95
certification. The Quantum 2.2GB Capella and Quantum 1, 2, and 4GB Atlas
drives targeted at high-end PCs, servers and workstations are also in
test.
