SOFTWARE PUBLISHING ANNOUNCES HARVARD GRAPHICS 4.0 FOR WINDOWS 95

New Innovations and Interoperability

SANTA CLARA, Calif., August 7, 1995 -- Software Publishing Corporation
today announced Harvard Graphics 4.0 for Windows 95, a major new release
of its flagship presentation graphics software. Harvard Graphics 4.0 is a
32-bit application designed specifically for Windows 95 and Windows NT,
allowing users to take advantage of interoperability with other
applications through robust implementation of OLE 2.0. In addition, this
version offers users more guidance with an expanded Advisor System; a new
text engine; and more creativity with clip art, utilizing a powerful new
image browser, Harvard Montage Lite.

"Harvard Graphics' is one of the market leaders, due to Software
Publishing's focus on the presentation graphics category," said Irfan
Salim, president and chief executive office of Software Publishing
Corporation. "This new release continues to raise standards of excellence
through innovations in interoperability, while continuing to be the best
tool for presentation graphics professionals."

WINDOWS 95 COMPLIANCE

Harvard Graphics 4.0 features OLE 2.0 implementation that goes beyond basic
Windows 95 compliance, allowing full drag and drop operations between
applications. For example, the user can easily drag and drop slides
between different presentations while maintaining consistency in the
overall look and feel of the presentation.

Software Publishing Corporation anticipates Harvard Graphics 4.0 will
receive full Windows 95 certification. As a result, this version will look
and work like other Windows 95 applications through its adherence to the
user interface conventions, such as tabbed dialogs, common toolbars,
right-click menus and floating ToolTips. This version has also adopted the
Microsoft Office 95 style guidelines which help users reduce the learning
curve often experienced with new applications.

In addition to the extensive Help System already in Harvard Graphics, the
Windows 95 "Help System" has also been incorporated, allowing users access
by dragging the question mark icon to a specific area. Harvard Graphics
4.0 also retains its Context-Sensitive Help, What's New Help and
Upgraders' Help.

CREATING MORE EFFECTIVE VISUALS AND EASE OF USE CONTINUE TO BE A PRIORITY

Harvard Graphics 4.0 continues to offer built-in design assistance and
other features that focus on helping users create and deliver more
professional looking presentations. In version 4.0, Software Publishing
expanded the Harvard Graphics Advisor System to now offer users a "FIXER
MODE" in the Design Checker. Additional improvements to the Advisor System
were made throughout the interactive Design Checker and the Quick
Presentations. The Advisor System still includes Quick Advice, Quick
Looks, Quick Tips and Design Tips.

The award-winning DESIGN CHECKER was created to interactively check the
users' presentation against various design rules. The Design Checker
"Fixer Mode," will not only find style and design problems within a
presentation, but now automates the correction by taking the user directly
to the area within the program that allows the user to correct the
problem. In Version 4.0, the Design Checker includes new Design Check
rules, allowing for more feedback which ensures the best looking
presentation possible. For example, if a user creates a pie chart with
eight slices, the Design Checker will suggest that using six or fewer
slices would improve the overall effectiveness of the chart.

Often users know the type of information they want to convey, but aren't
sure where to start. This latest release added five new QUICK
PRESENTATIONS giving users a total of twelve easy ways to quickly create
effective presentations. The new pre-designed presentations target common
business themes, including a project update, a management report, a sales
presentation, a problem resolution meeting and a simple speech
presentation. They contain sample content and are full of real-life
examples, chart styles and tips on how to use them effectively. Users
supply their own relevant data and with a few clicks of the mouse, they're
ready to go. Within the Quick Presentation dialog box, users are given
suggested uses and descriptions of the pre-designed presentations, as well
as thumbnail previews of each slide within the Quick Presentation. A
significant difference between other products is Harvard Graphics' ability
to allow users to customize Quick Presentations (with user's own titles,
descriptions and contents) which can be permanently added to the library.

Incorporating clip art to enhance presentations is becoming ever more
common. Replacing the Symbol Library Manager, Harvard Graphics' new image
browser, HARVARD MONTAGE LITE, gives the user much more flexibility in
accessing and organizing a greater variety graphic file formats. Users
have access to more than 500 new clip art images that come with the
product, and are now able to add clip art from virtually any other
application as well. Montage Lite also allows the user to visually search
and sort through the different graphic file formats and "drag and drop" or
copy and paste images into their Harvard Graphics presentations.

CUSTOMERS ENHANCEMENTS

Based on customer feedback, other enhancements have been included in the
latest release of Harvard Graphics. Principal among these is a new text
engine, which offers Superscript, Subscript and Leading functionality to
the Attribute Toolbar. The Find and Replace feature now allows users to
find and replace any text string within the entire presentation. Page
numbering has been added to the handout outputs. An Aspect Ratio
Correction feature automatically adjusts the aspect ratio of the
presentation when changing the orientation between landscape and portrait
modes or output devices.
