STARSQL SHIPS FIRST WIN95 HOST DATA ACCESS PRODUCT

Fast, direct, low-cost ODBC driver leverages 32-bit speed and
multithreading for lightning data access

BERKELEY, CALIF., SEPT. 1, 1995 - StarWare, Inc., today announced
availability of the industry's first 32-bit PC-to-host data access product
for Microsoft Windows 95. StarSQL for Windows 95, an extension of StarSQL
for Windows NT, provides full native support for Windows 95, including
support for multithreading and for the Windows 95 user interface. The
lowest priced host data access product on the market, StarSQL for Windows
95 is now shipping for $199 for a single copy, $89 each for ten copies,
and $69 each for 100 copies, with additional volume discounts. Users do
not need to purchase additional client or host software to operate
StarSQL.

Introduced in January, 1995, StarSQL is a software driver that lets any
ODBC-enabled Windows-based program access data directly from IBM midrange,
mainframe and UNIX systems, which currently store more than 70 percent of
corporate databases. Leveraging IBM's Distributed Relational Database
Architecture (DRDA) technology to request host data, StarSQL is a
client-only package that requires no special software or maintenance on
the host system. StarSQL allows users to bring record-by-record
information from IBM DB2 databases into Windows-based applications without
having to leave their application. At the same time, the new driver
enables programmers to rapidly develop transparent client/server
applications for DB2 data access, using tools such as Microsoft Visual
Basic and Powersoft Powerbuilder.

"The Windows 95 revolution focuses on making software easier to use, more
flexible and more powerful," said Jim Mullen, CEO of StarWare. "As the
first to deliver an ODBC-to-DRDA driver optimized for Windows 95, StarWare
is leading the charge to give end- users the fastest, most direct, and
most cost-efficient access to critical corporate data, with no
compromises."

NATIVE 32-BIT SUPPORT ENABLES EASY MIGRATION

As an extension of StarWare's StarSQL for Windows and Windows NT, StarSQL
for Windows 95 is binary-compatible with the original and
production-tested StarSQL. As a result, the new StarSQL for Windows 95
offers a consistent look-and-feel for users accustomed to StarSQL for
Windows - even for users of the 16-bit Windows 3.X - thereby easing
migration from earlier versions. StarSQL for Windows 95 will also support
the multi-threading capabilities of the new Microsoft operating
environment. This will enable StarSQL users to run multiple queries and
updates concurrently, without performance degradation or downtime.

STARSQL AVAILABLE WITH MICROSOFT SNA SERVER

A single free copy of StarSQL for Windows 95 will be bundled with
Microsoft's SNA Server product, a gateway that provides connectivity
between PCs in a local area network and IBM systems through IBM's Systems
Network Architecture (SNA) technology. Microsoft began bundling StarSQL
with SNA Server 2.11 shipments in July 1995, and is scheduled to ship a
Windows 95 client for SNA Server, along with the bundled StarSQL product,
this week.

"StarSQL for Windows 95, combined with the Microsoft SNA Server, provides
the reliable platform for PC-to-host data access that our customers are
looking for," said Vesa Suomalainen, general manager for the SNA Server
product unit at Microsoft. "With a copy of StarSQL included in every SNA
Server 2.11 we ship, Microsoft is giving users an easy way to evaluate and
develop highly efficient applications for accessing host data through the
powerful SNA Server connection."

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

StarSQL for Windows 95 is available immediately. StarSQL is priced at $199
for a single trial system, $89 each for 10 copies, $69 each for 100
copies, and $49 each for 1,000 copies.
