POWERSOFT'S WATCOM PRODUCTS DIVISION SHIPS WATCOM VX-REXX OBJECT
DEVELOPMENT KIT

Enables the Creation of Objects for VX-REXX's Development Environment

WATERLOO, Ontario, Canada, August 29, 1995 -- Powersoft's Watcom Products
Division today announced shipment of the Watcom VX-REXX Object Development
Kit for OS/2. With the Object Development Kit (ODK), developers can easily
create native VX-REXX objects and seamlessly incorporate these objects
into the Watcom VX-REXX development environment.

Watcom VX-REXX is an award-winning visual development environment for
creating OS/2 applications with rich graphical user interfaces. It
combines a project management facility, a visual designer and an
interactive source level debugger to deliver an easy to use and highly
productive visual development environment. The ODK extends the power of
VX-REXX by enabling the creation of new objects and enhancing the
functionality of existing objects.

"Our customers and vendor partners will benefit from the ease with which
they can create and customize objects using the VX-REXX Object Development
Kit," said Dave Boswell, vice president of marketing, Powersoft's Watcom
Products Division. "This increased flexibility will enable developers to
create more powerful OS/2 applications."

Easy Object Creation and Management

Using the Object Development Kit, developers familiar with C programming
and the System Object Model (SOM), can quickly and easily create VX-REXX
custom objects.

"The Watcom VX-REXX Object Development Kit is a blazingly fast tool for
ISVs who are developing repackageable VX-REXX objects," said Doug Bebber,
president, DB Technologies, Inc. "It makes SOM much easier to use and it
extends the power of OS/2. The boost to our productivity is surprising --
developing VX-REXX objects has become a one-step process."

Objects are packaged into dynamic link libraries, called object libraries,
which can then be loaded into the VX-REXX design environment. The
resulting objects appear in the VX-REXX tools window and can be used in
the same way as VX-REXX's pre-defined objects.

Starting a new object library is as simple as creating a new VX-REXX
project. A developer drags a project template, answers several questions
and the Object Development Kit generates all the necessary header files,
SOM class files and library files needed to build and link the object
library to VX-REXX's development environment. The new class browser allows
developers to easily view and modify the SOM class hierarchy instead of
directly editing SOM class files.

The Object Development Kit's documentation describes in detail the VX-REXX
architecture, how to build and debug object libraries, common traps and
pitfalls to avoid, how to build bound controls and includes a complete
reference of all the functions and methods. Several working examples are
also provided with complete source code.
