WESTERN DIGITAL TAKES COMPUTING TO A NEW DIMENSION WITH TASMANIA 3D GAMING
BOARD

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA., Sept. 18, 1995 -- Computing takes on a new dimension
with Western Digital Corp.'s (NYSE:WDC) Paradise Tasmania 3D gaming board.
The high-resolution action 3D gaming upgrade is available for either PCI-
or VL-based systems, transforming any 486- or Pentium-based computer into
a captivating game machine.

With an estimated selling price of $250, Tasmania 3D is a low-cost upgrade
solution that opens up cutting-edge 3D gaming to the PC world. Tasmania
3D's unique design is 100 percent compatible with all existing 2D graphics
accelerators, protecting the investment users have in their current
systems.

Tasmania 3D gives gaming fanatics the performance they crave and enriches
game play for the casual user. Its support of both the PCI and VL bus
makes it the solution for gaming enthusiasts who strive for the fastest
Pentium machines to play games, while also providing top performance on
486 computers. It renders high-resolution three dimensional games with
detailed textures at realistic frame rates on mainstream PCs. Its 640 by
480 resolution redefines state-of- the-art for 3D games, quadrupling the
current 320 by 200 resolution of most software-based 3D games.

"For the first time this holiday season, mainstream consumers will be able
to experience true, edge-of-your-seat 3D action excitement," said Leonard
Sharp, vice president of marketing for Western Digital's Multimedia
Products Unit. "Tasmania 3D combines performance, ease- of-use and price
for the most compelling and best value in 3D gaming."

THE HASSLE-FREE GAMING SOLUTION

Tasmania 3D is a complete 3D gaming solution that includes everything the
user needs to experience 3D games immediately. It simply plugs into an
available PCI or VL slot and uses only a loop-back cable for easy,
hassle-free installation.

The board comes with two popular high-resolution action games, immediately
sending users into the next dimension of computing.

"Western Digital's Tasmania 3D accelerator card has allowed us to provide
gamers workstation-like graphics for their PC," commented Collin Boswell,
technical director, Domark Software. "The card allows us to push the
graphics and hardware to the limit, thus giving the gamer a more realistic
and immersive experience."

Western Digital has also shipped Tasmania 3D boards to other game producers
for further game development.

THE PERFORMANCE EDGE

The design and implementation of Tasmania 3D allows it to co-exist with any
2D graphics accelerator. Users don't have to invest in any additional
hardware to play their 3D games. Tasmania 3D gives users the excitement of
3D without impacting the performance of their existing 2D graphics card.

Tasmania 3D incorporates the Yamaha YGV612 Rendering Polygon Accelerator.
It provides hardware texture mapping for the highest quality of detail,
without sacrificing performance. It also features gouraud shading for
smooth, realistic contours and Z-buffering for hidden surface removal,
giving gamers the ultimate playing experience.

Tasmania 3D comes with either PCI- or VL-bus interfaces, with 2MB DRAM. The
board will be available through Western Digital distributors, resellers
and retailers in October 1995.
