                            4th April 1695          of Dedisham

In the name of God Amen the
ffourth day of Aprill in the seaventh yeare of the reign of our most
gracious Sovereigne Lord William by the grace of GOD King of England
Scotland ffrance and Ireland Defender of the ffaith etc. I John Puttocke of
Deadsham within the Parish of Slinfold in the County of Sussex Yeoman
being sick of body but of good and perfect memory praised be my good
GOD for it doe make prepare and ordaine this my last Will and Testament
in manner and form following ffirst and principally I bequeath my Soul
unto Almighty GOD my Creator and Maker who gave it me nothing
doubting but faithfully beleiving That by and through the free mercy in
the Merits Death and Passions of Jesus Christ his onely Son and my
All sufficient Saviour and Redeemer I have or shall have full pardon and
remission of all my Sinns and be made an Inheritor of his Heavenly Kingdom
And as for my body I committ that to the earth and within convenient
time after my decease to be decently buryed at the discretion of my Executrix
And as for my temporall Estate which it hath pleased GOD to bestow upon

me I doe dispose thereof in manner and form following Imprimis I doe give
and bequeath unto Mary Charman Widdow my Sister Tenn Shillings
to be paid her by my Executrix yearly dureing the naturall life of my
Executrix Item I doe give and bequeath unto my Brother's daughter Mary
Stone now wife of John Stone Tenn Shillings and unto her Sonne John
Stone Tenn Shillings to be paid unto them by my Executrix within three
moneths next after my decease Item I doe give and bequeath unto John
Puttocke my Godson the sonne of my Kinsman Thomas Puttocke of
Cranley the summe of Tenn pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid
unto him by the Executors Administrators or Assignes of my said Executrix
after her decease Item I doe give and bequeath unto Jane the daughter of
my Kinsman Richard Puttocke the summe of Tenn pounds of lawfull money
of England to be paid to her after my Executrix decease as aforesaid Item
All the rest and remainder of my goods cattell chattells and credits
whatsoever unbequeathed my debts Legacies and ffunerall expences being
paid and discharged I wholly give and bequeath unto Jane my loveing
and well deserving wife Upon condition That she leave it to my Kindred
after her decease And I doe make Jane my wife full and whole and sole
Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hopeing That she will well
and truely perform the same according to my true meaning herein
expressed In witness whereof I the said John Puttocke have hereunto sett
my hand and seale the day and year first above written Annoq Domini 1695
John Puttarke Signed sealed and published as the last Will and Testament
of the said John Puttocke in the presence of us who have subscribed our
names as witnesses in the presence of the Testator John Michell the marke
of Mary Lucy   Richard Barnard

On 2nd May 1695 Probate was granted to Mary Stone als Puttarke, wife of
John Stone, niece, the daughter of the deceased's brother John Puttarke
als Puttock, and the Administratini of the estate was duly granted to her
as next of kin, the deceased's wife and intended Executrix having died.
