                  I. VOCABUCOMP -- PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

                                  VER 2.3

The VOCABUCOMP program is intended to be used for vocabulary review.
Vocabulary is an essential part of many areas of study. Words are the
basis of understanding. In many areas, learning the vocabulary is almost
like learning a foreign language. Once you know the language, you
can use it to think about the particular area.

The more you review vocabulary, the better you get at it, and the better you
will be able to use the words and recognize the words in reading or a
                               in a test.

YOU NEED TO USE THIS PROGRAM OVER AND OVER TO LEARN THE WORDS WELL!

Many tests rely on your use of vocabulary terms. The more you review
vocabulary terms, the more likely you are to do well on such tests.

In most areas of study, the vocabulary is used only as a way to understand
something. That means that the vocabulary is just a stepping stone
to understanding. In other words, don't study vocabulary only. You need
to spend an equal amount of time in thinking about processes, about how
things work or why they happen the way that they do.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: DOS 2.1 or higher, 256 K.

The program is available via shareware. The shareware
concept allows you to try a program for a limited time and then
requires direct payment to the author for continued use of the
program. Otherwise, you would be in violation of Federal
                copyright law.

It is a violation of Federal copyright law to duplicate this
program for use by others without the express permission of
the author, William E. Peace. It took hundreds of hours to
produce this program and it is not fair to me to duplicate
                this program without my permission.

VI. MAKING YOUR OWN VOCABULARY FILES

The vocabulary files are very easily made using a plain ASCII text
word processor. The simplest to use would be the EDIT program that
is part of your DOS system. The following directions use that program.

   1. Pick a name for the file. For example, if the file will be about
   weather, name it WEATHER.DAT
   2. Get to your DOS prompt.
   3. Insert your DOS disk or if using a hard drive, type CD DOS <enter>
   4. Type EDIT A:WEATHER.DAT <enter> (or B:WEATHER.DAT for drive B)
   5. Type the first word in the left column, no spacing before the word.
   6. Tab or space to column 17. It is imperative that you be in column 17.
   7. Type in the definition for the first word. The length of the
definition can be UP TO 62 characters (to right margin only; no second
   line).
   8. Repeat steps 5-7 for each additional word in the file. You can
enter up to 200 words in a single file.
   9. Save the file by touching ALT F and then picking EXIT.
   10. Repeat all steps (#1-9) for each additonal file.
   11. You can delete .DAT files from the disk using DOS. For example,
   to delete WEATHER.DAT type DEL WEATHER.DAT <enter>
