What does it do
This program is designed to call numbers listed in a data base, provide a perpetual calendar,
and a method of logging telephone contacts that is quick and convenient.

Installation
Run the Setup.Exe program in the Windows environment.

1.	Select the directory on which you want the program to reside.

2.	You may select any of the current Groups (to hold the start icon) as indicated by the list box or you
	may create a new group.
If you select OK, the icon will be placed in the group currently displayed in the Text Box.

If you select Cancel, no icon is added to any group of your program manager. This means that you
will have to launch the program from the Run option in the program manager, from the file manager,
or whatever Windows desktop or shell you use.

If you decide later that you want to create an icon, execute this program with an "/S" option. That is, select
Program manager Run, type "TLCFone /S" and select OK.

General Use
The default empty data base provided is named TLCFone.MDB (and TLCFone.LDB).
Before using the program you must:
1. Enter data into the data base
See Tutorial below.

2. Specify the phone and port connection parameters.
Before you can make a call, you have to select the desire phone type and comm port. Select pulse for rotary or Tone
for touch tone type phones. Select the comm port that has a modem connected between it and the phone line.
If you want to have your local area code in the data base, but do not want to dial it, enter your area code.
The connect information is maintained in the TLCFone.ini file. Thus the information only has to be entered once.

3. Set the prefix information.
If your phone requires that you dial a sequence of numbers to get an "outside line", use the prefix box to enter
those numbers. If you have to dial a 9 and then Wait for a dial tone, use 9w (lower case w) in the Prefix box. If
you have to dial 8 to get a line but there will be no dial tone, use 8, (that is an eight followed by a comma). Each
comma in the sequence will cause the program to delay for 2 seconds before dialing the next number.
The prefix may be up to 9 characters long.
The connect information is maintained in the TLCFone.ini file in the windows directory.

4. Select a range of the data base to be viewed.
If you wish to display part of a database, select a specific pair of letters from the list to the left of the list box. Only
one pair of letters can be selected at one time. To display all information, select *.

5. Select a specific record in the data base.
Double-Click on the name of the person to be called.
6. Select Home, Office,or Memo
The Address and Telephone number can be selected for the Home or the Office by selecting the Home or Office
button. Click on the radio button as desired.
The Memo field can be selected by selecting the Memo button.
When the Memo field is being displayed, the Memo button is blackened. When an address and phone number is
displayed, the corresponding button will be blackened.
To dial a number directly from the Memo field, simply double-click on that number.

7. Select Call to call the number listed in the number box.
Click on the call command button labeled Call. A dialog box will be displayed. As soon as the dialing is complete
click on ok and pick up the telephone.

Calling
Select Call to dial the number shown in the telephone number window.
To Dial an extension enter an x (lowercase x) in the number prior to the extension, ie: 13035551212x345. This will
call the phone number 1-303-555-1212 . Pick up the phone when the dialog box appears. When you are ready to
dial the extension press <Return>.
Alternately, if you know that the extension should be dialed after receiving another dial tone, then place a w
(lower case w) prior to the extension. For example: 1-303-555-1212 w 345.
If no extension is selected, a dialog box tells you when to pick up the phone.
Uppercase letters may be used in place of numbers, i.e. - 555-HELP. would dial 555-4357.

Tutorial
The first time TLC Phone Book is run, you must enter your contacts in the phone book.. Select New
(type ALT+W or click on the button). This will allow you to enter the first name. Type in a name -- I
recommend using the format of Last Name Comma First Name. After you have entered the name press
the TAB key, this will move the cursor to the Address at Home box.
Type in as much information on each line as you desire and press the Enter (or RETURN) key to type the
next line of the address. You may have as many lines as you want. When you have typed the full address,
press the TAB key to move the cursor to the Phone at home box.
The phone numberCall can include up to 20 characters. You may include spaces, parentheses or dashes to
make the number more readable. Do not include a common prefix prefixnumber in this box. To enter a work
address and phone number, select the radio button Work. (ALT+R)

This will cause the Work radio button to darken and the cursor to move to the Address at work box. Type the
address and press TAB or ALT+P to move to the phone number box. Enter the number. Select the Memo
radio button to add notes to this record.
This is a free form field (type whatever you like). When you are done typing, select oK (ALT+K) to save the
record.
Repeat the above to add as many new records as you wish. Before you make a call you must set up the
modem. Select Windows|Modem from the menu (ALT+DM) to bring up the Modem Setup dialog.
Use the group of four radio buttons in the upper left section to select a Comm Port 1 -4. The next set of two
radio buttons is used to specify if your phone is a pulse (rotary) style or touch tone type. The group of three
radio buttons allows you to select the delay that allows your modem to work with your system -- usually
zero is correct. You may enter your 3 digit area code in the Local Area Code text box. The program
selectively eliminates the Local Area Code from the number before dialing. The last selection to be made
in this dialog is the type of modem. Usually Hayes - Compatible will work. There is an extensive list of
modems in the combo box to chose from if your modem is not Hayes Compatible. After making these
selections, select OK

Your system now contains all of the information needed to make a phone call.
And that's all there is to it.

New Data Base
To create a new data base select File|New from the main menu. The disk and directory selected will be the
directory from which TLCFone is running. Type a name into the box under "File Name" such as MyPhone.
Any word that is from 1 to 8 characters long and contains only numbers and letters (no punctuation) will
work. Select Ok to save that name and exit the dialog box. You may want to have separate databases
for different purposes.

Menu Selections

File | Exit
This option closes the data base and exits the program.

Open a data base
Open a data base using the File|Open menu option. A list box will provide the names of the currently available
databases. Highlight the one you want to use and choose Select.

Remove a data base
To Remove a data base from the list of possible databases, chose File|Remove from the menu. Highlight the data
base to delete and chose Remove. This action does not delete the database from the hard drive. It simply removes
the database name from the list of available databases. To delete a database from your phone book, you must use
File Manager, or the appropriate DOS commands.

Change Fonts
You may select the font displayed by the List of contacts list box and the Record text boxes.
Choose Edit|Fonts from the menu, and click on the desired font in the list box. Set the appropriate size
by clicking on the Size (up or down) arrow. Select Bold or Italic, if desired from the associated check box.
The Sample text displays the currently selected font.

Update a Record
To update a record in a data base, select the name from the List of contacts list box, make any required
changes, and select Edit|Update (ALT+E U) from the menu or click on the button labeled Update.

Delete a Record
To delete a record from a data base, select the name from the List of contacts list box and then select
the menu item Edit|Delete.

Add New Record
To add a new record, click on the New button or press ALT+W. Type in the new name, addresses, and
telephone numbers. Then press ALT+K (or click on the OK button) or select Edit|AddNew from the menu.
If you change your mind, click on the Cancel Button to stop the add new operation.
After entering Name, Home Address, and Home Phone; press ALT+R and enter Work Address and Phone number.
Enter any notes by pressing ALT+M. Enter your information in the memo field. When finished, press ALT+E A to
add the new record.

Copy From Clipboard
Selecting Edit|From will copy the contents of the clipboard into the memo field.

Copy
Use Edit|CopyToClip to copy the currently selected name and address to the clipboard.
	Smith Jr., Mr. Robert
This name when copied to the clip board would unwind as Mr. Robert Smith Jr.

Help Menu
Help|About	Shows about box.
Help|Context	Press F1 to get context sensitive help.

Press ALT+B or click on the button labeled Blank to insure fields contain blanks. Set all fields to blank before
adding a new record or defining the data to Seek a record.
Press ALT+S or click on the button labeled Seek to find a record in the data base that matches the text box fields.
If you want to search for a person named John who lives in Colorado, you could type *John* in to the
Person text box field and *, CO* in the Address at Home text box field and select Seek. Only the text box
fields that contain data will be used in the search. The asterisk wild card character can be used to substitute
for 1 or more of any character. Thus, in the above query, you would get Johnson, Bill as well as Smith, John.
But only if their address field contained the characters comma space and CO together in that order. After
the Seek, if a record was found, the button command changes to Again. If Again is selected, the next record
in the data base that meets the original criteria will be found.
Press ALT+P or click on the button labeled Prior to make the previous name in the list box active.
Press ALT+N or click on the button labeled Next to make the next name in the list box active.

Record
Select a record by highlighting the name in the List of Contacts list box. The information for that name is then
displayed.

Define the Data base to be used
The names and directory paths of the available data bases are maintained in TLCFone.ini file which must be in the
local directory. Initially, you must elect to create a new database. Select File|New from the menu.
When you first define a data base, that data base becomes the default data base. To use a different data base, open
the data base by using the File|Open menu option. Highlight the desired data base and choose Select.

Calendar
To see a calendar of the current month, select Windows|Date or press ALT+DD. The calendar shows the
current date in the window caption bar, the selected month and year above the calendar, and the days in the
month under their Day-of-the-week header. If the current day is in the selected month, that day is highlighted.
New months can be selected in forward or backward increments of months or years. Use the vertical scroll
bar to change months in the selected year. Use the horizontal scroll bar to select the year. Years can be
selected in the range of 1000 years before or after the current year.

To leave the calendar, select OK.

Contact Manager
The contact manager provides an easy way to log telephone contacts. From the main menu, select
Windows|Contact to expose three sub-menu items; Automatic, Off, and Show.
Automatic is the default. Clicking on (Automatic or Off ) will toggle between the two settings. Only one of
these items can be selected at a time. Automatic opens the Contact Manager window when a call is
attempted.

In automatic mode, the phone number dialed and the name will be filled in and the Start and End Time
command buttons are displayed. Clicking on a command button will insert the current time.

The Show option immediately shows the contact manager window.

In Show mode, the phone number and name are empty; the Start and End Time data boxes are regular text
boxes. Double clicking on the Time text boxes will cause the current time to be inserted.
The remarks box is a free formatted text area. Type whatever you want. When you finish the call, click on the
End Time button and then on the Add button.
After contacts have been logged and you enter this dialog box, you will see the previous 20 contacts in the
top portion of the window.
You may enter this dialog box to edit, add, or delete contacts. Records to be edited are copied from the top
grid down into the current contact area for editing. To select a record for editing, click on the 1st column of
the row containing the data to be edited. To edit that record, select File|Edit (ALT+FE). You may change
any data you want (except the date). When you are done, select Update.

To delete a record, select the row in the grid and chose File|Delete.

 Shareware and warranty details
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it. If you try a Shareware program
and continue using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request
registration while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything
from the simple right to continue using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the copyright holder retains all rights,
with a few specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just
like commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good
programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. The author specifically grants
the right to copy and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find software that suits your needs
and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs
easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also.
Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

 DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of TLC Phone Book must accept this disclaimer of warranty: "TLC Phone Book is supplied as is.
The author disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of
merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or
consequential, which may result from the use of TLC Phone Book."

TLC Phone Book is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the user for evaluation. Feel
free to share it with your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The
essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If you find
this program useful and find that you are using TLC Phone Book and continue to use TLC Phone Book after
a reasonable trial period, you must make a registration payment of $10.00 to Software Engineering and
Fabrication. The $10.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one computer at any one time.
You must treat this software just like a book. An example is that this software may be used by any number of
people and may be freely moved from one computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility
of it being used at one location while it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two
different persons at the same time.

Commercial users of TLC Phone Book must register and pay for their copies of TLC Phone Book within 30
days of first use or their license is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting
Software Engineering and Fabrication.

Anyone distributing TLC Phone Book for any kind of remuneration must first contact Software Engineering
and Fabrication at the address below for authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted to
distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
distributors may begin offering TLC Phone Book immediately (However Software Engineering and
Fabrication must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest version of
TLC Phone Book).

You are encouraged to pass a copy of TLC Phone Book along to your friends for evaluation. Please
encourage them to register their copy if they find that they can use it. The basic $10.00 fee provides
registered users with legal use of their copy of TLC Phone Book, a method of receiving product support for
1 year, and the latest version of the TLC Phone Book.

Product support will be provided for a minimum of 1 year after registration. Additional support will continue
for "Current" versions of the product for as long as the product exists. One may always upgrade to the
current version for a nominal fee. Support will be available via telephone, written communications (letters),
and through CompuServe.

Support includes answering questions and fixing serious bugs during the minimum three month period.
For problems involving a specific hardware or software environment or feature, Software Engineering and
Fabrication may choose not to modify the program. In that case, if the report is within three months after
purchase, then Software Engineering and Fabrication shall offer to refund the user's purchase price.

Any money sent to Software Engineering and Fabrication to register an unsupported product shall be
promptly returned with an explanation that the product in question is no longer supported.

If there are any known incompatibilities with other software or hardware or major or unusual program
limitations will be noted in the documentation that comes with the shareware (evaluation) program.
Please write to Software Engineering and Fabrication to make suggestions for improvements to this
product and/or suggestions for new software. Your input is considered extremely important.

 ASP Ombudsman

"This program is produced by a member of the Association of Shareware
Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the shareware
principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve a
shareware-related problem with an ASP member by contacting the member
directly, ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can help you
resolve a dispute or problem with an ASP member, but does not provide
technical support for members' products. Please write to the ASP
Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road, Muskegon, MI 49442 or send a CompuServe
message via CompuServe Mail to ASP Ombudsman 70007,3536."
