                    VFP / VFX notes

When any V32bis modem is having connect problems (either low
speed or hi-speed) have them try this to report line
quality.
This is done after they connect so they must have some
kind of a connection. If the 2400 connection is giving
garbage, that is OK. If they can't connect at hi-speed then
try 7200, 4800, 2400 or even 1200 to establish some kind of
connection.

Wait until the incoming characters have stopped, then
Press +++ and wait... the modem should go OK. Then you are
in Command mode. Then type
AT%Q%L [cr]
This will report line signal quality. Write down the
results, and the connect speed, and the modem (VFP/FVX bis
or non-bis). Give this to Don H. He will pass it along to
Mike Gilbride. To disconnect after the test, just hang up,
<alt> H on most software.

For your (and customers) information, this reports
Recv'd signal level and line quality. The first report
should be low, 001 to 015 is normal, with 060 or more
getting poor. The second number range is from 009 to 043
(perhaps higher) and should be low 016 to 30 for normal
connections. Anything over 043 is definitely bad, higher is
worse.
                                   Don H.
