                              GENERAL INFORMATION

1. This is a VFR/IFR flight planning program for PC's. The program
package may freely be distributed in it's unmodified form and
tested, like shareware. BUT saving a route requires a valid
registration number (USD 25,-). The program and registration may
also be supplied on disk (USD 35,-). The disk contains an install
     program as well.

The program must NOT be used by COMMERCIAL-, MILITARY- or
GOVERNMENTAL operators without a special licence agreement with the
     author.

Also for general use in a flying club or similar, a special
     agreement is required.

2. Documentation is found in the file FPL11.DOC, which is in plain
     ASCII format.

Part II is a quick start guide, but for an even quicker start: Make
a directory and copy all files to this. Start the program by typing
FPL<Return> at the DOS-prompt. Select SETUP from the Main menu,
then CONFIGURE. When done, select AIRCRAFT DATA from the Setup
menu, and enter your aircraft data. If you want to enter your local
airfields and nav-aids, select NAV-DATABASE, also from the Setup
menu, and add the facilities. The program is now ready for use.

3. FILES

Files included with the demo/sw version:

     - README - General info (this file)
     - MAILER - Registration form
     - FPL11.DOC - Documentation (This file)
     - FPL.EXE - Main program file
     - FPLSETUP.EXE - Program file (normally called from main program)
     - FPL.DTA - Data file (will be made by program if not present)
     - FPL2.DTA - Data file ( " " " " " " " " )
     - FPLFLY.DTA - Data file, aircraft data
     - FPLFAC.DTA - Data file, nav-database
     - FPLFAC.IDX - Data file, nav-database
     - FPLFAC.TXT - Nav-database in ASCII text format
     - FPLFIL.DIR - Route file remarks (used by the program)
     - ********.RT* - Examples, saved routes.

The sample route files are mostly trips within Norway, and the
names may therefore seem a bit strange (to put it mildly..), but
they are included to show how the various features are used.

The Nav-database is also meant as an example (the data should be
correct though), and contains a selection of airfields and
navigational aids in Europe, USA and a few in Canada. A recommended
way to expand this is to first enter the facilities in your local
area, then add points as you create new routes. The program allows
you to enter the necessary data for a facility not found in the
nav-database and then save it in the database, - as you create a
     route.

Finally, the aircraft data are meant as examples as well, and may
be replaced with your own aircraft.

4. A note on Airfield Identifiers:

In most countries, the three letter and four letter airfield codes
are totally different. The 3 letter codes are those used by
airlines and their international SITA network, while the 4 letter
ICAO codes are what are used in ATC flight plans, notams, weather
     forecasts etc.

USA is a bit special though, since the three letter codes are
widely used for most purposes. But if you take a 3 letter US
airfield code and put a "K" in front of it, you have the 4 letter
ICAO code! Only USA has this connection between the 3 letter and 4
     letter codes (and Canada maybe?).

In PC Flt Plan, it is recommended to use the four letter codes for
airfields to distinguish them from airport VOR identifiers (In the
US, they are often the same). Also, the Map View function will then
be able to distinguish between airfields and other facilities
(nav-aids and fixes never have 4 letter codes).

     Examples:

Country Airfield 3 letter code ICAO code
     ----------------------------------------------------------------
     England London/Heathrow LHR EGLL
(country code EG) London/Gatwick LGW EGKK
     Germany Frankfurt FRA EDDF
(country code ED) Mnchen MUC EDDM
France Paris/Ch de Gaulle CDG LFPG
(country code LG) Lyon/Satolas LYS LFLL
     Russia Moscow//Sheremetievo SVO UUEE
(country code U) St.Petersburg LED ULLI

     USA New York/Kennedy JFK KJFK
(country code K) New York/La Guardia LGA KLGA

(The first letter in the 4 letter code is the ICAO region code, E
is Northern Europe, L is Southern Europe, K is USA etc.)
