Graphics Works
for Windows

by Tony Curro

When you see the word "Works," you usually think it is an integrated
package. This is no exception. Micrografx, maker of the popular Windows
Draw! and Designer, has released All-In-One Graphics Works for Windows.

Graphics Works (GW) is the ultimate graphics package. You can do anything
from: creating newsletters, presentations, posters, etc. It is like buying
several individual programs, but at a fraction of the cost.

The program requires 18.4 MB of hard disk space for a full installation.
Included in the package is a bonus CD with clip art and photo images. If
you own a CD-ROM drive, the installation is a breeze. GW is also included
on the CD-ROM. Just insert the disk in your drive and start the
installation. You do not have to sit there and insert floppy after floppy.

Earlier I mentioned Windows Draw!. I reviewed it in an earlier issue. I was
pleased with the program features, and also with the price. Well, GW
includes Windows Draw! as it's drawing program. Contained are 32 TrueType
fonts, ClipArt Manager and much more. Photo Magic is used for photo
editing. In addition you can create charts and graphs, using Win OrgChart
or WinChart, or a slide show.

PhotoMagic input support includes: TIFF, PCX, BMP, GIF, TGA, JPEG and
CD-ROM (including Kodak Photo CD). Photo editing allows you do many things
with images. Create special effects, custom backgrounds, clone, paint,
erase, flood and more. You can browse thumbnails of files and, using
EffectsBroswer you can select and preview effects.

Presentations can be outputted to: overheads, color or black-and-white
handouts and 35mm slides. GW has OLE support, and also has TWAIN support
for scanners.

Overall, I found the capabilities of this program endless. Being
integrated, it all works perfectly together.
