Call Linking Instructions
-------------------------

Call Linking allows you to use the BBS to call a number that is a
local call from the BBS's location but long distance for you.

Call Linking uses Call Forwarding, a Custom Calling feature that phone
companies offer for an additional monthly charge, typically around $3.
The BBS temporarily sets its phone line to forward to the remote
number for a short time, during which the user calls the BBS line and
gets forwarded to the second number. After 2 minutes, the BBS turns
Call Forwarding back off so it can continue to take calls. Even
though the user is still connected to the remote number, the BBS can
turn off Call Forwarding and keep taking calls.

In the following instructions, "the BBS" is the BBS you're invoking
the Call Linking command from, and "the remote number" is the number
you're trying to call. To use Call Linking:

1) Select one of the commands in the Call Linking menu to call a phone
number. If there are none listed, then the BBS probably doesn't
   have Call Forwarding yet.

2) Choose [O] to log off normally, or [K] to log off and keep your
newscan pointers so new messages will be new again the next time
   you call.

3) Wait 1 minute and 10 seconds. During this time, the BBS will be
spending 30 seconds shaking off auto-dialers by answering,
printing "please call back in 3 minutes," and hanging up. Then it
will take 30 seconds to set the Call Forwarding.

4) Call the BBS back. If all goes well, you should be connected with
the remote number. If you get the BBS again, it could mean the
remote number was busy or didn't answer, or you waited too long to
call back. Call Forwarding is turned off after 2 minutes, so
after you've waited 1 minute and 10 seconds, you have a 50 second
window in which to call. If you get a busy signal, you may have
called back a little too early, or you may be hearing the busy
   signal from the remote number.
