with V series Modems and v32 RPI modems

In the modem setup where you have a choice of modems. Pick Hayes
(smartmodem) 2400 or Hayes 2400 compatible. Set your speed (19,200 is best,
38,400 for VFast modems) and RTS/CTS flow control. You do NOT want the
software to follow connect speed (auto), but be at locked (fixed) at the
DTE (modem-computer) speed that you set in the software. If you are calling
non 'V' modems, and have trouble connecting, then try putting &Q6 in
additional inititialization string. (AT&Q6 followed by the software's
carraige return character(s), some use \ some use ^M some may use
something else). If you can't use RTS/CTS flow, you probably want XON/XOFF
which is &K4 or &K5 (see the manual for the difference). If you use
XON/XOFF then set true modem speed & use &Q0.

Hayes V series modems have some proprietary commands (non - CCITT)
which will cause an error used with a Zoom V series modem.

It is recommended that you use a non-existent COMport (3 or 4), or
REMOVE serial 2 rather than just disabling serial 2. One other hint may
be felpful, if you have trouble at 14,400bps. Put this string in User...

ATS37=9N0 (w/carraige return) which tells the modem to conect at 9600.

TURBO modem users - add S36=7 to the INIT string (or addititional init
string).

>>> If an older 2400 modem works, but the V-series modem does not, you may
need to change the serial cable. It must support Hardware flow control.
