ANNOUNCING: The 3rd Meeting of the International Society for Ecological
Economics (ISEE)

DOWN TO EARTH:
Practical Applications of Ecological Economics

October 24-28, 1994  -  San Jos , Costa Rica
Hotel Herradura Resort and Conference Center

An international, transdisciplinary conference emphasizing the importance
of translating concept into reality by providing a forum that showcases the
tools with which human societies can prosper economically without
destroying the earth's life-support system.  ISEE has been at the center of
a global effort to transcend conventional disciplinary boundaries and
integrate ecology and economics.  Major themes to be addressed at the
conference include: envisioning sustainable alternatives; the social and
ethical dimensions of ecological economics ecosystems; biodiversity, and
development; sustainable agro-ecosystems; creating the institutional
settings for sustainability; financing sustainable development; and new
perspectives.  Morning plenary sessions will be followed by afternoons
devoted to technical sessions, roundtables, panel discussions, and
presentation areas.  Field trips to many of Costa Rica's unique natural
preserves, as well as visits to institutions within the country that are
experimenting and utilizing sustainable practices are included in the
week's activities.
