AB OBJECTIVES: To assess types and number of doses of medications consumed

Hospital in Bombay on basis of clinical suspicion of HIV-disease or with
clinical STD were entered into the study. Their blood specimens were
subjected to HIV-1/2 ELISA, WB-1, WB-2. Counseling was provided.
       RESULTS: 262/533 (49.2%) of patients were found HIV-1 &/or HIV-2
positive. These included 194/262 (74%) males. Of 262 patients, 64 had
AIDS and 45 had ARC using WHO clinical criteria. The common medications
used are: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. CONCLUSIONS: HIV-infected
persons need significantly greater number of doses of medications. The
hospitals will have to allocate increasing resources for care of
HIV-infected persons which will drain the health budget.
