AB OBJECTIVE. To estimate the magnitude of the epidemic in demographic and
economic terms. METHODS: Analysis of the National AIDS Registry. TABULAR
DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. RESULTS: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME.
CONCLUSIONS: Estimation of the social impact of AIDS surpasses the costs
of preventive and control measures and therefore justifies their
effective implementation. These calculations are useful for health
       planners and policy makers.
