AB OBJECTIVE: To integrate HIV prevention into family planning counselling.
METHODS: The integration was developed during 2 workshops on AIDS/FP and
sexuality organized in Nepal (93, 94) with participants coming from
various governmental and non governmental agencies working in family
planning or AIDS. RESULTS: Discussion about sexuality among the
participants was very hard but prejudices could be overcome through the
exercises. Various entry points where to integrate the HIV prevention
within the family planning GATHER method were identified. DISCUSSION AND
CONCLUSION: The risk behaviour of the client concerning HIV transmission
can and has to be assessed during the FP counselling.
