AB PROBLEMS: The State does not contribute to the appearance of a massive
social subject of AIDS (population active sector with capacity to demand
public policies of assistence and prevention). The statal campaigns
discourage this possible subject and this attempts against the
communitary prevention efficiency. Our hypothesis is: while the State
moves back in its role of this public conscience builder it is possible
to partially substitute its inaction by means of a credible speach of
known artistic, sportive, cultural people, etc. METHOD: 50 personalities
were called (i.e. Diego Maradona, Peter Gabriel) and all them recorded
the message (solidarity, prevention and human rights) with a duration of
1 minute each one. These messages, 10 each day were broadcasted during a
year in FM 106.3 Buenos Aires radio. RESULTS: We reached a population of
3 millions. 250 volunteers were incorporated to the R.E.D. Foundation.
7,589 calls were received. 1,346 claims for HIV tests were derivated to
public hospitals. CONCLUSIONS: With more bold and creative procedures,
the civil society can reply to the State inaction concern to the
rebuilding of public conscience about AIDS.
