AB OBJECTIVES: To stimulate, encourage and support youth through Sports and
Cultural activities to cope with AIDS effects. METHODS: Identification
of Sports/Cultural activities done in the area and problems encountered.
Build up local Clubs/Clans/Societies and committees. The youth gradually
come together to form Clubs/Socities. They do not only talk about
Sports/Cultural activities but also discuss about the fatal disease
AIDS. 20% of the Youth in Rakai District are HIV+. They realize the need
to know more about HIV/AIDS and request AIDS Education. 12 Groups
comprising of 503 youth have received AIDS Education. Encourage positive
youth co-operation against HIV/AIDS infection through training peer
groups. RESULTS: Local committees/Clubs set up to plan, organize and
implement activities. Bordom reduced. Time used constructively as there
are things to occupy youth. Increased motivation to discuss positively
HIV/AIDS control. Increased youth group requests for AIDS Education
Seminars/Workshops. Promotion of co-operation, team spirit and
development of desirable social qualities. CONCLUSION: Promoted
awareness and reactions on many things that happen in life e.g.
       diseases, poverty, redundancy, orphans etc.
