 AB    OBJECTIVE: To analyze brazilian legislation and relevant case-law
       regarding people living with HIV/AIDS. METHODS: Analysis has included:
       (1) the right of the workers with HIV/AIDS; (2) the obligation of
       private health companies to pay for the expenses of the AIDS treatment;
       (3) the obligation of the public hospital to offer drugs, treatment and
       beds; (4) social assistance for the needy who are not able to work; (5)
       compensatory indemnity for the people contaminated via blood
       transfusion; (6) the right to attend school, nursery and other public
       sites. Case studies describing these situations and propose measures
       willl be guaranteeing the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS.
       RESULTS: The study results in the creation of the first brazilian
       publication on AIDS and the law. The repercussion of the book in the
       newspapers and periodicals magazines was broad, instigating a series of
       discussions on TV programs about the rights of people living with
       HIV/AIDS. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The publication orient other
       professional involved in the fight against AIDS in order to increase
       information about the rights of people with HIV/AIDS.
