 AB    OBJECTIVE: To clarify the future problem of social work for patients
       with HIV by studying social work practices for HIV-infected hemophiliacs
       in Japan. METHODS: Evaluation and analysis of social work practice for
       25 HIV-infected cases to show the problem specifically related to
       Japanese culture when dealing with problems. CONTENTS: 1) Viewpoint of
       psychosocial support including families. 2) Attitude towards AIDS 3)
       Lack of resources such as moneis, support, facilities. 4) Importance of
       team approach and providing Whole Person Healing CONCLUSION:
       Psychosocial support for AIDS patients is in the early stage in Japan.
       And social work practices where AIDS patients are involved are trying to
       define their role by studying HIV cases in the U.S. Since social work is
       the profession that intervene between persons facing these kinds of
       problems and their environment, social workers should play an important
       role in helping persons with HIV infection by thinking of their special
       psychosocial need and consideration in Japan. It is necessary for social
       workers to have a clear viewpoint of each contents and to develop their
       accountability.
