AB Hope of life of AIDS Patients: experience of the AVIGNON Hospital,
France. The progress of therapy increase the duration of life of HIV
infected patients, essentielly with differing the opportunistic
infection of AIDS. But the benefit in term of survival on AIDS Patients
is not very clear. A retrospective study of 170 patients AIDS deceaded,
between 1993 and december 1993 is analysed. The sex, contamination, year
of discovery of HIV positivity, the opportunistic infection prophylaxis
and the duration of hospitalisation are not significant. The age,
immunodeficiency status, infections during AIDS and cachexy are
important elements for the survival (p 0.001). The interest of
prophylaxis (against HIV or opportunistic infection) is not clear (p =
0.05). These elements must be considered for the decision of treatment
       of asymptomatic HIV infected patients.
