AB OBJECTIVES: Ensure that NGOs fully understand the negative impact of
HIV/AIDS on community development efforts so as to stimulate them to
include AIDS activities in their community development programs.
METHODS: Organisation of a workshop with the theme, NGOs and the
Campaign Against AIDS in Burkina Faso. RESULTS: 56 NGOs participated.
Discussions focused on the following themes: Role of NGOs in the
campaign against AIDS; How to ensure for the care of AIDS victims; What
should be the key messages concerning AIDS in rural areas; What should
be the key research topics concerning AIDS in rural areas. A
coordinating body of NGOs interested in enlisting in the AIDS campaign
was created; all participating NGOs joined. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
NGOs with their long and rich experience of working with rural
populations are very well-placed to play a major role in the campaign
       against AIDS in rural areas.
