AB OBJECTIVE: To evaluate Canada's HIV research agenda from a community
perspective. METHODS: A two day meeting of 33 treatment activists from
20 organizations was held to review AIDS research in Canada. A document
summarizing the discussion and recommendations was circulated for
comments and finalized. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Thirty recommendations
were directed to government, basic and clinical researchers,
pharmaceutical companies and community groups. These included the
identification of basic and clinical research priorities, the
development of a collaborative funding lobby and mechanisms to provide
better compassionate access to experimental therapies.
