AB OBJECTIVE: 1) To create a collective space for reflection and discussion
about safer sex for men who have sex with men (MSM); 2) To provide
reliable information on condoms, prevention methods, STDs, HIV/AIDS; 3)
To stimulate positive attitudes towards homosexuality and safer sex.
METHODS: With the aid of group communication exercises and dynamics,
video sessions and open debates, subjects related to safer sex,
       homosexuality, self-esteem, negotiation, condoms, personal
relationships, love, friendship, etc. are discussed. The workshops are
announced through outreach in homosexual meeting places, such as gay
nightclubs and bars. RESULTS: 24 workshops have been carried out,
between August/93 and January/94, reaching 240 people. The most
discussed themes, based on the users' needs, were: fear, death,
insecurity, affection, promiscuity, pleasure, sensation of loss.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: Public attendance and subject matters show
the importance of creating collective spaces for discussion of safer
sex, which results in stimulation of social participation and
psychological support for promoting and assuring change in risky
       behavior.
