AB OBJECTIVE: To elucidate through life review what HIV-positive women
identify as life regrets and life satisfactions. METHODS: Qualitative
methods were used. 29 HIV-positive women, age 22 to 59, provided data.
Participants responded to the questions. If earlier in your life you had
known that you could become HIV-positive, what aspects of your life
prior to the onset of HIV infection would you have changed? What aspects
would you not have changed? Responses were clustered to reveal common
categories of life regrets/life satisfaction. RESULTS: Three prevalent
life regret categories emerged: Sexual Practices--I would not have had
so many one night stands/meaningless sex, and I would've used condoms.
Failed Relationships--I would have been wiser in love; and General
Lifestyle--I would have worked much harder to eliminate stress from my
life, to not worry so much about others, and put me first. Three
prevalent life satisfaction categories emerged: Successful
Relationships--I would not have changed being involved with my husband
from whom I contract the virus; Education--I still would have gone to
school and graduated; and Spirituality--I would not have changed my zeal
to serve God, except for it to be stronger. CONCLUSIONS: HIV+ women were
able to identify both life regrets and life satisfactions. Life regrets
reflected dissatisfaction with life choices which resulted in unmet
needs for safety, love, and belonging. Successful relationships were the
       most prevalent life satisfaction.
