AB The status accorded to women in Indian society makes it difficult for
most women to be able to talk about sexuality and make empowered
decisions about safer sex. Many women also have been conditioned to have
negative perceptions about their own sexuality. Efforts directed at
stemming the spread of HIV infection among women have to focus on
improving their overall status as also encouraging women to perceive
their sexuality positively and empowering them to make safer sex
decisions. Examples from case studies of individuals who have come for
psychotherapy as also experiences during training programs done on
issues of sexuality and HIV/AIDS will be used to highlight issues and
       implications for programs.
