AB The main purpose of this report is to attract the attention to the daily
education, health protection and living problems which arise to women in
changing HIV/AIDS situation. Good health of women is a base for creation
of healthy society, because a woman is the main pledge for assurance the
motherhood function. At this moment there is only one HIV infected woman
registered in the AIDS Centre of Lithuania but it is not a real
situation because the number of HIV infected persons is growing. 4
heterosexuals, 5 bisexuals men have families, other HIV infected
heterosexual men have accidental sexual intercourses. The problem to get
HIV infection and STD's becomes really important. Prostitution and drug
addiction in Lithuania are illegal. Family planning problems are
hindered by the lack of contraceptives, precautionary measures and
shortage of information about their use. Problems of ensuring moral and
spiritual equilibrium and valuable life of HIV infected women arise.
Special programs and procedures are being prepared at this period for
the purpose to ensure special needs for women (e.g. psichological
preparation of girls for living in a family; compulsory basic education
and special sex education; ensuring of appropriate madical services for
pregnant and delivering women; refusing of unhealthy habits, such as
alcohol consumption, smoking, drug use, etc.) and they should be
included into the internal AIDS policy of the state.
