AB OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the post-graduate educational program on AIDS
control for public health personnel in Japan. METHODS: We asked 144
participants to fill out questionnaires at the beginning and the end of
this program. Questionnaire contained items about knowledge on AIDS,
self-evaluation of knowledge on AIDS control and self-evaluation on
accomplishment of this course's objectives. Objectives of this course
were as follows: 1) To explain strategies for AIDS control at a meeting.
       2) To analyze AIDS related data in their own prefecture. 3) To master
fundamental technique of AIDS counseling. RESULTS: Proportion of
participants who accomplished objectives of this course increased
significantly after taking this program. The proportion of participants
of 2 week's course was higher than that of 1 week course. However,
proportion of participants who accomplished 2nd objective was less than
30% even at the end of this course. Knowledge on AIDS and
self-evaluation of knowledge on AIDS control were significantly improved
after taking this course. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: It was appeared
that further improved instructions on analysis of AIDS related data are
       needed.
