AB OBJECTIVES: The present study is oriented to the generation of New
Preventive Medicine including the dream of traditional one and also to
the development of educational theory and research methodology for their
practical applications. METHODS: In order to cope with the above
contemporary needs, General Network (GN) Approach being developed by our
study group in 1986 was introduced for the development of New Preventive
Medicine which should be an alternative scientific foundation for the
recovery of humanity with particular to living with AIDS. A series of
our educational studies on AIDS prevention for past four years (1991-94)
in Japan as well as Thailand was the subject matters for the present
study; three major groups such as medical and health workers including
general public. RESULTS: The three major consecutive studies were
carried out as follows; 1. The sensory understanding on five major steps
of paradigm shift from traditional to new one in terms of preventive
medicine for common sharing. 2. Structuring and functioning on New
Preventive Medicine with particular to Quality of Life and Bio-ethics
for education. 3. Educational studies on systems feasibility, case
caring assessment and population evaluation as quality assurance in
healthcare. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: It was realized through the
present study that this educational and research systems should be New
Health Paradigm which does not neglect any existent approaches and also
could be equally applied for community problem solvings such as mental
health or geriatric care. The educational introduction of Role Playing
on AIDS caring and curing in the community settings was definitely
proved to be effective for the social realization on living with AIDS
spirits among participants from the viewpoint of bio-ethical recovering.
The further development of educational systems on New Preventive
Medicine or New Health Paradigm was identified in terms of common sense
understanding on paradigm shift for the era of living with AIDS.
