AB OBJECTIVE: To assess the benefits gained and future needs of health
workers trained on HIV/AIDS prevention and control. METHODS: Pre-test
and post-test before and after every module were conducted to measure
the learning level of health workers trained. Analysis of pre-test by
category of health workers (F-test, multiple range test) and by previous
attendance to other trainings on HIV/AIDS (t-test) were done. Comparison
of pre-test and post-test by module and by category of health workers
(paired t-test) were likewise conducted. RESULTS: There was no
significant difference between the pre-test of health workers who
       attended/not attended previous HIV/AIDS training (p > .05). Doctors and
nurses had significantly higher pre-test scores in modules 1 and 3,
whereas nurses and health educators had higher pre-test in module 4.
There was significant improvement in the post-test for modules 1, 2 and
3 (p < .005) in all categories of health workers. DISCUSSION: Modules 1,
2 and 3 have comprehensive discussion on the topical content. Module 4
contained only basic information on community organization and IEC
strategies (information, education, communication) which most of the
participants are familiar with. There is a need to re-assess application
of knowledge gained and identify areas in need of emphasis, update and
revision 6 months and 1 year after.
