AB OBJECTIVES: To develop multicentric training courses for
multidisciplinary Health Care Providers (HCP) within a
Cognitive--affective model for the control and prevention of HIV-
Tuberculosis co-infection. METHODS: Once Tuberculosis Program is more
experiment than AIDS Program in providing training activities for the
control and prevention of the disease, we utilized its structure and
engaged health care coordinators of all levels working in both
programmes to elaborate curriculum and instructional material. Technical
knowledge joined to emotional aspects of the training team is a strategy
to motivate HCP, expanding their capacity to attend to an increasing
demand of co-infected patients and assuring a multiplyer effect.
RESULTS: A total of 3 training courses were carried-out to 60 HCP in 3
states (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Bahia) during 1993. Trained HCP
were required to develop the course at their municipalities and, we
estimate that about 100 HCP had received any kind of benefit from the
first trained multiplyers. In 1994 we will be reviewing material and
carrying-out training courses to others municipalities. DISCUSSION AND
CONCLUSION: One of the most important effects of this course was the
collaboration between tuberculosis and AIDS programmes from local to
federal levels. We thank WORLD AIDS FOUNDATION for the support to do
       these course.
