AB In 1986, included in the STOP AIDS Campaign activities, we began field
investigation about the people's resistance to AIDS prevention. Our
subject people has been transformed in the two extremes of the AIDS
problem: 1.- General Public. 2.- Terminal sick internees in the Muniz
General Hospital of Buenos Aires City. Our work hypothesis indicated
that the resistances to prevention were, and still are not only done to
wrong messages, but also to deep causes related to the dominant culture
and to the exercise of an agreeable sexuality. The field experience in
the search and the practice during the start of the Creative Sexuality
Workshops for AIDS prevention have shown that our supposals were not
mistaken. We have been using popular education methodologies and
community participation, including game activities that can connect the
participant not only to sexuality but with cultural resistance that
appear during the agreeable experience of sexuality. The implemented
modules do not distinguish between population because of genus or sexual
election, but it recognizes sectors that share some socio-cultural,
political and geographical characteristics. The results in our
experience has shown a new kind of approach to AIDS prevention, not only
because of educational contents and methodologies, but because of an
ideological perspective facing the AIDS problems. Our experience
demonstrates that individual approaching is the one to show habit
changes and to give the real comprehension of why to take desitions in
that sense, for then, with the help of extended programs being able to
point to a bigger population groups.
