 AB    OBJECTIVE: To strength the capacity and knowledge of program's managers
       on methods and strategies for planning, surveillance, implementation,
       evaluation and costing of STD control programs. METHODOLOGY: Teaching
       methods was through lectures, seminars, group discussions and plenary
       sessions. There was strong emphasis on practical exercises involving
       participants in the desing of control programs appropriate in their
       country of origin. Small group sessions conducted by one facilitator
       comprised a large part of the course. RESULTS: The course was highly
       evaluate by the 30 professionals responsibles for STD/AIDS programs at
       the national and regional level in 16 different countries, whom
       participated in the 2 weeks course. DISCUSSION: a) An statement calling
       for the STD/AIDS programs coordination was made by the participants. b)
       There was general consensus in the need to strength the STD/AIDS
       programs manager's capacity and repeat the course annually.
