AB OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the accuracy of two HIV-antibody screening assays
used in Lithuanian laboratories now. METHODS: Panels of well charactered
sera were distributed to laboratories as unknows. The laboratories
performed routine tests for HIV by Peptoscreen-2 and Rec HIV1/2 3rd gen
(Abbott) and reported results to the Reference laboratory of Lithuanian
AIDS Centre. RESULTS: Of positive sera testing are presented in the
table: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. All laboratories obtained true
results of testing of negative sera samples. CONCLUSION: The
Peptoscreen-2 was less sensitive than Abbott HIV1/2 3rd gen. Results
confirm the poor suitability of Peptoscreen-2 for donor blood screening
for HIV1/2 antibodies. Both test kits have potential use in clinical
       settings including testing of pools.
