AB OBJECTIVE: Antibodies to HIV-1 nef gene products were studied in sera of
65 adults and 67 children with HIV infection. Persons with asymptomatic
infection prevailed in adult group (83.0%) and with P2A stage--in
       children group (73.1%). METHODS: Test-system Blot-HIV (line-blot enzyme
immunoassay) was used to detect antibodies to structural proteins and to
nef gene products. RESULTS: Antibodies to nef gene products were
detected in 24.6% of adults and in 32.8% of children. Positive results
were mainly found in adults with PGL (28.9%) and realy in patients with
ARC and AIDS (9.1%). Positive results were found in 38.7% children with
stage P2A and in 16.7% of children with ARC or AIDS. In 5 patients with
rapid progression of one stage to other we failed to detect antibodies
to nef gene products during the first and repeated test. Positive
results correlated with the stable phase of HIV infection. In cases with
negative prognostic clinical signs (thrombocytopenia, anemia, loss of
weight etc.) antibodies to nef gene products were detection only in
0-15.8% of cases. At the same time we detected these antibodies in
16.7-23.3% of patients without such symptoms. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION:
Our preliminary studies demonstrated the regularity in dynamics of
antibodies to nef gene products. It is possible that this marker has
       prognostic value in this infection.
