 AB    OBJECTIVES: To establish the value of a drug code-named Mariandina-A,
       containing antioxidants & micronutrients in the treatment of HIV/AIDS.
       METHODS: A cohort of 164 patients in stage 2 and 3 of WHO classification
       of HIV infection, rated between 40-70 by Karnofsky's Performance score
       had been treated over a period of 18 months were selected for a
       retrospective analysis using Karnofsky's performance score &
       haematology. RESULTS: Results of response after one complete year of
       treatment: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION:
       The study indicates significant improvement in Karnofsky's performance
       score of over 40 points in 85.0% & CD4 counts rose by over 200/mm3 in
       53.0% cases while 33.3% deteriorated had less than 200/mm3 most of whom
       had Kaposi's Sarcoma & Tuberculosis. A double-blind placebo controlled
       study is underway.
