AB San Baipi. root of Morus alba L. (Moraceae) is a traditional Chinese
medicine for cough, asthma and other diseases. The alcohol extract of
San Baipi displayed activity against HIV in vitro. Solvent partition,
fractionation on CC and preparing TLC provided three anti-HIV
flavonoids: morusin, kuwanon H and morusin-4'-glucoside. The results of
anti-HIV test of morusin, kuwanon H and their derivatives indicated that
the site between 2-free hydroxy and 3-y,y-dimethylallylic group of these
flavonoids was sensitive to photo-oxidation, and contributed to anti-HIV
activity. This paper is the first report on preparing, physical data,
anti-HIV activity and cytotoxicity of morusin-2'-glucoside,
       morusin-4'-glucoside, kuwanon H-6'-aoctare kuwanon H-7-aoetate and
       triacetate mulberrofuran D.
