AB OBJECTIVES: Symptoms and signs of AIDS-Dementia Complex and the the way
they appear. METHODS: Twenty patients hospitalized in A. Sygros hospital
with a diagnosis of AIDS-Dementia have been studied. The clinical &
neurological examination, the neuropsychological evaluation, the blood &
CSF serological tests, the brain CT and MRI were used for the
establishment of the diagnosis. The finding are compared to the
patients' immunological status. RESULTS: AIDS Dementia Complex occurs in
patients with a low CD4 status. This was noticed at almost all of our
patients. The time passed between the occurrence of AIDS (stage IV, CDC
1992) and the appearance of AIDS Dementia Complex was not significantly
different in our patients under AZT treatment (600 mg/day) and those
       under no antiretroviral treatment.
