AB OBJECTIVE: Determination of psychoneurologic disorders character and
degree and evaluation of ability to work in HIV-infected patients.
METHODS: 166 individuals at various stages of HIV infection without
cerebral opportunistic infections and tumors have been studied. Clinical
neurologic (including CT) and special psychophysiologic methods
(personal testing, investigation of memory, attention, mentality and
other) have been used. RESULTS: Neurotic symptoms (including
       depression-58%), HIV-associated minor cognitive/motor disorders (3-11%)
predominate in the early stages of the disease. Further, true psychotic
disturbances more pronounced. HIV-associated dementia has been
recognized only in ARC (17%) and AIDS (71%), p < 0.01. CONCLUSION: These
methods are more informative and can be recommended to be included into
(a set of) expert techniques in testing for HIV infection with the
following psychotherapy and psychocorrection of the detected
       abnormalities.
