 AB    With reference to a study about the ratio CD5+/CD8+ as evolution marker
       during HIV infection (Valguarnera e coll.), we studied 90 subjects HIV
       infected in differents stages of disease (25 asymptomatics patients, 30
       LAS, 20 ARC, 15 AIDS) and compared them with the homogeneous group of
       healthy HIV negative subjects. The lymphocitic subpopulations were
       studied with cytofluorimetric method using monoclonal antibodies (Ortho
       Diagnostic System). We observed in HIV positive subjects, during the
       disease the early gradual decrease of the percentage ratio CD5+/CD8+ and
       also how this decrease maybe already demonstrated some weeks before
       symptom onset. This observation allowed us to predict tho onset of the
       LAS in 4 asymptomatics patients and the onset of the opportunistic
       infection in 4 ARC patients. We are trying to confirm this observation
       with a study on a bigger group of subjects, because the percentage ratio
       CD5+/CD8+ could be, in the future, a very important help for the
       diagnosis, prognosis and treatment in HIV infection.
