AB OBJECTIVES: To determine (1) clinical spectrum of HIV-1 &/or 2 infection
       (2) Positive Predictive Value (PPV) of clinical features. METHODS:
Between July and December 1993, 533 patients referred to Skin/STD dept
at GT Hospital in Bombay on basis of clinical suspicion of HIV-disease
were entered into the study. Their blood specimens were subjected to
HIV-1/2 ELISA, WB-1, and WB-2. Counseling was provided to all. RESULTS:
       262/533 (49.2%) of patients were found HIV-1 &/or 2 positive. These
       included 194/262 (74.0%) males. Of 262 patients, 217 (83.0%) were HIV-1
       positive, 17 (6.4%) were HIV-2 positive, and 28 (10.6%) were HIV-1 & 2
positive. The salient clinical features were: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT
VOLUME. CONCLUSION: High PPV of indicator symptoms/infections, low
prevalence of Montoux reactors and fewer symptoms among HIV-2 infected
       persons.
