     CONVENTION: 

           
	    This document and JCAT screens use abbreviatios to
            represent keyboard keys.  These keys are enclosed
            in square brackets.
            
            Thus, [A] denotes the key "A" on the keyboard.
	    [Enter] refers to the "ENTER" key, etc.
            Combined representations such as [Alt][H] mean hold
            down the "Alt" key and type the letter "H".
            



     INTRODUCTION:

       
            JCAT version 1.1 was compiled with Borland C++
            version 3.1.

            JCAT (Joe's disk catalog, pronounced jay cat) as the
            name implies, is a disk catalog utility that will read
            and catalog diskettes/files.  It will catalog diskettes
            in either drive A or B.  JCAT is completely menu-driven
            and, its multiple windows allow easy access to all its
            functions and utilities.  Versions 1 and 2 do not
            include other than password utilities.



     A QUICK START:


            1. Unzip the file JCAT.ZIP to a sub-directory or
               diskette

               You should then have the following files:

                 JCAT.EXE
                 JCAT.HLP
                 JCAT.PIF
                 JCAT.BAT
                 JINSTALL.EXE
                 README.TXT
                 REGISTER.TXT
                 FILE_ID.DIZ

               If any of these files is missing, or you suspect tampering
               send a self-addressed  mailer with a diskette OR $4.95 to
               the above address for a fresh copy of JCAT1.1


            2. Make the disk/directory that contain JCAT the default. 
            3. If the file JSETUP.BAT or JINSTALL.EXE is available,
               execute it and answer to the prompts as appropriate 
               to install JCAT on your hard disk, 

               ELSE...

            3b. Create the directory "C:\DOS\JCAT" and copy all the
               files to it.
            3. Type JCAT at the DOS prompt and, from JCAT's main
               menu...
            4. Press [ALT][I] (hold down alt key and press 'I').
            5. Press Y at the prompt proceed? (y/N) to initialize
               JCAT.


            You are now ready to use JCAT.
            If needed, press "C" from the main menu to configure
            JCAT's screen colors and other parameters.

       
            JCAT is menu driven.  Read the menus carefully and
            select the first letter of each menu to access the
            corresponding function.



            If you are using WINDOWS use the file JCAT1.PIF or
            JCAT.PIF to start JCAT.



     NOTES:


            You can exit or abort many functions by pressing
            the [esc] (escape key) at any time.


            To register JCAT and obtain the updated version 2.0
            or version 3.0,
            print out and fill in the enclosed file REGISTER.TXT
            and mail it with your personal check, money order,
            or cashier's check to the address above.  PLEASE DO
            NOT ENCLOSE CASH.  Make all	checks payable to
            Joe Akpan at the above address.


            The NOTEPAD (version 3 only) uses the DOS editor
            EDIT.EXE which must	be in the DOS PATH.  If you are
            using another editor, rename a copy of it to EDIT.EXE
            and place it in the DOS PATH.


	    Some functions of JCAT are only accessible with
	    [Alt] key.  Press [Alt][H] at the MAIN menu to see
            these finctions.

               the changes within two weeks, we will implement
               those features.  That way, you can have your own

     WHAT ABOUT JCAT VERSION 2?


	       JCAT version 2 is similar to JCAT version 3, except
               for the utilities (8 above).  JCAT version 2 does not 
               have the utilities (except for password).

               JCAT2 and JCAT3 are not SHAREWARE.  THEY ARE ONLY
               AVAILABLE TO REGISTERED USERS OF JCAT1.

               send you JCAT3 for the price of JCAT2.
