             Summary of changes in Phones 5.61
******************************************************************
   Shortly after Phones 5.6 was released, Borland released an update
      to their database engine, which is used by Phones. This version
      includes that update, however it is not installed by default.
      You must remove the WIN.INI [IDAPI] CONFIGFILE01= setting
      before installing this version of Phones to update your existing
      installation of the Borland Database Engine.
   The Borland Database Engine update reportedly corrects problems
      with Lantastic and Novell networks and includes other bug
      fixes.
   Phones can now sort records based on international character sets.
      Please see the Localize ini setting mentioned in the Ini Settings
      for METZPHO.INI listed below.
   The label font selection has been moved to the individual label layout
      settings. This allows you to save fonts on a layout basis rather
      than having only one font setting for all label layouts.
   A List Search User Fields command has been added. It allows you to
      quickly find a value in the user definable fields.
   The List Find and Replace now include the individual Telephone and
      user defined field types for more flexibility.
   Rebuild Indexes now has an option to fix orphan records, you should
      periodically rebuild each of your databases using this option.
   If you press Ctrl+G when the Phones List Window is active, your
      database will be checked for orphan records.
   Search and Replace were not handling the not (!) operator correctly
      when searching user fields or telephone numbers. This has been
      corrected.
   A potential key violation when importing records containing multiple
      categories has been fixed.
   The dialing has been changed internally for future 32 bit support,
      please report any problems.
   Dialing, area and country codes have been combined into a new
      Dial Codes dialog.
   The edit menu options 1 thru 6 have been combined into a single
      Edit Options dialog.
   A "No current record" error has been fixed.
   The File Status dialog counts were off by one, this has been fixed.
   The Address Book report now includes the title if it is not blank.
   Other minor bugs/changes.

      engine has helped improve database performance.
   A List Search Phone Numbers command has been added. It allows you to
      quickly find a telephone number.
   The View menu now has shortcuts to quickly change the List window
      display. (Shortcuts for the List View dialog).

METZ Phones requires SHARE:
    The METZ Phones Install program will check to see if share is
installed on your system. If it isn't, you will be asked if you
would like to have it installed for you.
    SHARE.EXE is included with DOS. You can add share to your
AUTOEXEC.BAT so that share will be automatically loaded when you
start your system. The line you add will be similar to:
C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE
Make sure that this line appears before any line that may run
Windows.
    Microsoft has made a VSHARE.386 available for Windows 3.1
users who do not want to install the DOS share program. This
file goes into your SYSTEM.INI and provides the functionality
normally provided by the DOS share program.
    If you have Windows for Workgroups or Windows 95 installed,
share is not required. If you are using a Novell Netware Network,
you do not need to install share if the database and network path
are located on the network drive.

******************************************************************
                       Ini File Settings
******************************************************************

                          METZPHO.INI

     The METZPHO.INI file contains the various settings for METZ
Phones. Following are the undocumented INI values which you may
find useful. If the setting does not exist, simply add it. Shown
are examples with their default values. You will need to restart
Phones for any changes to take effect.

[METZ Phones]
Localize=FALSE
TempDir=C:\
ListCacheSize=200
ListExtendedSelect=TRUE
ListIndent=TRUE
ListActivate=FALSE
ReportFirstLast=FALSE
RecordChangeMsg=Yes
MinimumColumn=75

[Modem Settings]
OnTop=Yes
WinFax=Yes
Yield=0

Localize - Phones will sort records based on the international language
           driver selected in the Borland Database Engine Configuration
           utility if this setting is set to TRUE. Here are the steps
           you must take to convert your existing databases:
           1. Backup all of your METZ Phones databases with the
               File Backup command.
           2. Add Localize=TRUE to your METZPHO.INI [METZ Phones]
               section.
           3. For each database you have backed up, create a new
               database, then choose the file restore command to load
               the backup file.
           4. All new databases will be supported automatically.

TempDir - Specifies the location for the Borland Database engine to
          keep temporary files. Specify a drive and directory which
          exist. The default is C:\. Do not use a network drive.

ListCacheSize - The List window displays various database records.
                By storing (or caching) the information it needs
                once a record has been accessed, performance
                improves considerably. If you have a large
                database, you can increase this value to improve
                the List window performance. METZ Phones will use
                some additional memory as a result, roughly 30-60
                bytes per record. Setting this value to zero will
                disable record caching.

ListExtendedSelect - Setting this value to FALSE will change the
                     way the mouse can be used to select records
                     in the List window. Records can then be
                     selected individually without holding down
                     the shift or ctrl keys.
ListIndent - The List window displays records based on the
                currently selected sort order. If the main sort
                field is blank, another field may be displayed in
                the first column, indented slightly. For example,
                when you sort by Company, records without a
                company value will display the name indented
                slightly. If you want to disable the indentation,
                set this value to FALSE, and restart Phones.
ListActivate - When you open a database from Phones, the Record
                View window is activated. If you want the List
                window to be activated instead, then set this
                value to TRUE.
ReportFirstLast - When printing reports, names are printed as
                "lastname, first middle". If you would rather
                have it print "first middle last", then set
                this value to TRUE.
RecordChangeMsg - Set this value to No to disable the message which
            indicates a record has been changed by another user.
MinimumColumn - Determines the minimize size of the List Window
            text columns in pixels. If the List Window size is less
            than this size, only the first column of information will
            be displayed. Set this value to 0 to display all columns
            of information regardless of the List Window size.

OnTop - Set OnTop=No if you do not want the dialing dialog to
            appear in front of all Windows applications. The default
            is to stay in front.
WinFax - Set WinFax=No to disable the Delrina WinFax dialing
            compatibility.
Yield - If you have a Zoltrix modem, you may need to set Yield=100
            in order for the dialing to work properly.

                          METZPHO.ENV

     The METZPHO.ENV file contains the envelope settings for METZ
Phones. Following are the undocumented INI values which you may
find useful. If the setting does not exist, simply add it. Shown
are examples with their default values. You will need to restart
Phones for any changes to take effect.

[METZ Phones]
SavePrinter=TRUE

SavePrinter - By default, the Envelope printer settings will be saved.
              Set this value to FALSE if you do not want the printer
              settings to be saved.

                          METZPHO.LBL

     The METZPHO.LBL file contains the label settings for METZ
Phones. Following are the undocumented INI values which you may
find useful. If the setting does not exist, simply add it. Shown
are examples with their default values. You will need to restart
Phones for any changes to take effect.

[METZ Phones]
SavePrinter=TRUE

SavePrinter - By default, the Label printer settings will be saved.
              Set this value to FALSE if you do not want the printer
              settings to be saved.

                            METZ.INI

     The METZ.INI file contains the various settings for METZ
Software products. Following are the undocumented INI values
which affect METZ Phones. If you don't have a METZ.INI file in
your Windows directory, simply create the file from Notepad.

[METZ]
DateApp=control.exe

DateApp - This option determines what application is launched when
         you double click on the Date or Time display at the
         bottom of the application window. The default
         application is the control panel (CONTROL.EXE).
         If you want the control panel to open up into the Date/Time
         dialog, use "DateApp=control.exe DATE/TIME".

                             WIN.INI
     The only use of the WIN.INI file by Phones is actually by the
Borland Database Engine. The engine uses a section called
[IDAPI], which should not be modified.
