TP 770 - Page fault, illegal operation, or invalid region error messages when playing DVD movies

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom:
SoftDVD or Mediamatics DVDExpress playback is not hardware accelerated, there is a page fault or the message 'this DVD cannot be played in this region'.

Configuration:
Any ThinkPad 770/770E/770ED/770X running Windows 98 with the DVD and Enhanced Video Adapter installed.

Solution:
The optional DVD and Enhanced Video Adapter shipped with a flyer stating that users with Windows 98 should not install the MPEG driver in the \M98MPG directory located on the Driver CD that shipped with the option.

If the customer installed this driver, Device Manager will list the MPEG driver as IBM DVD Decoder Card.

Perform the following steps to uninstall the incorrect driver and install the correct one:

1. Obtain the new SETUP.EXE file from the Mobiles Private Area of the BBS.
2. Copy the contents of the \W95MPG directory on the DVD and Enhanced Video Adapter Driver CD to a diskette.
3. Copy the new SETUP.EXE file to this diskette.
4. Run the SETUP program from this diskette and follow the on-screen instructions.

After having downloaded the updated SETUP.EXE file and running through the installation process, the MPEG driver for the SoftDVD application must be downloaded and reinstalled as well. To download the MPEG drivers for the SoftDVD application, click here (). Note: If you are using DVDExpress, then you DO NOT follow this last step.
