Aptiva - 2140/2142 Diagnostics - Monitor

First, review the "Display Self Test" on page 3-12 of the HMM, then follow step 001.

û Power-off the system unit and monitor.
û Remove all adapter cards.
û Make sure the monitor I/O signal cable is properly connected to the system unit and monitor.
û Make sure the power cords are properly connected to the system unit and monitor, and that the line voltage is correct. See "Power Supply" .
û Make sure the monitor contrast and brightness controls are not adjusted too low.
û Power-on the monitor, and wait 20 seconds.
û Power-on the system unit.

Note: Because monitor models might differ, review the Display Self Test before attempting to answer the following questions. The test has changed from previous levels. If the monitor was not sold together with the system unit, you might need to refer to the service information provided with the monitor.

If you are not familiar with the self-test pattern produced by the Display Self Test, refer to step 4 of "Display Self Test" on page 3-12 of the HMM for a description of the self-test pattern.

Note: Do not run the Display Self Test. Do not unplug the monitor I/O signal cable from the system unit.

002 - DOES THE DISPLAY SELF-TEST PATTERN APPEAR ON THE SCREEN? (Yes - Go to Step 003, No - Go to Step 007)

Unplug the monitor I/O signal cable from the system unit.

004 - DID THE DISPLAY SELF-TEST PATTERN REMAIN ON THE SCREEN (Yes - Go to Step 006, No - Go to Step 005)

Replace the monitor.

Check the monitor I/O signal cable. Replace if defective.

Replace the system board.

û Power-off the system unit and monitor.
û Unplug the monitor I/O signal cable from the system unit.
û Power-on the system unit and monitor.

008 - DOES THE SCREEN CHANGE FROM BLACK (WITH MONITOR POWER-OFF) TO THE APPROPRIATE RASTER OR WHITE SCREEN AS DESCRIBED IN THE DISPLAY SELF TEST? (Yes - Go to Step 010, No - Go to Step 009)

û Replace the monitor.

û Power-off the system unit.
û Reconnect any disconnected cables.
û Power-on the system unit.

011 - IS THE SCREEN READABLE? Note: If the screen shows a blinking cursor with no memory count running,
answer this question "No"ö (Yes - Go to Step 013, No - Go to Step 012)

û Replace the system board

û Press Esc.
û Select Diagnostics from the Main Menu.
û Select Interactive Tests from the menu.
û Select Video from the menu.
û Follow the prompts and perform the video test.
Note: You might have to refine the monitor controls to obtain the best image.

014 - DID THE MONITOR SUCCESSFULLY PASS ALL TESTS? (Yes - Go to Step 016, No - Go to Step 015)

Replace the monitor. If the symptom remains, replace the system board.

You have successfully completed the video Diagnostics and Utilities tests. If the problem remains, go to "Index of Symptoms, Messages, Error Codes, or Beeps" .
