TP 365ED - How can I get external MIDI support under Windows 95 ?

Applicable to: World-Wide

SYMPTOM:
The system as shipped does not support the external MIDI under Windows 95.
Note: Only CD-ROM equipped ThinkPad 365 systems have audio or MIDI support

SOLUTION:
Audio features disk version 4.03.35 or higher is required (AF36B335.EXE on web). Click here to obtain the drivers.

The installation is as follows:

Driver Update Procedure:

- Boot the system to the Windows 95 desktop.

- Open the Control Panel as follows:
o Press the Start button on the task bar
o Move the pointer to Settings
o Left-click on Control Panel

- Open the System Properties window by double-clicking on "System" in Control Panel.

- Select the Device Manager tab in the System Properties window

- Expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" section in the Device Manager window by left-clicking on the plus sign (+) to the left of
the "Sound, video and game controllers" item in the Device Manager list.

- Double-click on the "ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive" item in the expanded "Sound, video and game controllers" list to bring up
the Properties window for the ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive.

- Select the Driver tab in the ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive Properties window and left-click on the "Change Driver" button.

- Left-click the "Have Disk" button on the Select Device panel.

- Insert the Audio Driver diskette into the A: Drive.

- Left-click the OK button in the "Install From Disk" window then left-click on the OK button in the "Select Device" window.

- Selecting OK or Close in the remaining open windows of the "System Properties" panel will close those windows and complete installation
of the new drivers.

- Remove the diskette from the A: drive.

Make sure that you have selected "Use single mode DMA" for the Audio Driver. The steps for making this setting are given below:

- Go to "Control Panel" in Windows 95.

- Double-click "Multimedia".

- Click "Advanced" in the "Multimedia Properties" window.

- Go to "Audio Devices" in the list of "Multimedia devices".

- Double-click "Audio for ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive".

- Select "Settings".

- Select "Use single mode DMA" and close all open windows by clicking OK or Close.

- Restart Windows 95.
